Embellish & Mend with Clover’s Darning Yarn!
This month, I had the chance to play with Clover’s new Darning Yarn—and let me just say, it’s more versatile than I expected! Traditionally used for repairing worn-out or damaged areas in fabric, this yarn is soft, colorful, and perfect for creative embellishment too.
To put it to the test, I crocheted a lace rectangular swatch and decided to use the darning yarn for surface embroidery. I sketched a loose flower design and brought it to life using a tapestry needle and a few basic stitches. The yarn glided easily through the fabric, adding a pop of color and texture that really stood out against the crochet backdrop.
What surprised me most was how seamlessly this yarn also worked for mending. As I embroidered the flower, I intentionally placed part of the design over small holes in the crochet fabric—essentially “hiding the mend in plain sight.” It’s a reminder that mending doesn’t always have to be hidden; it can be decorative, thoughtful, and even fun.
Whether you’re looking to add a whimsical touch to a finished project or breathe new life into something worn, Clover’s Darning Yarn is a wonderful addition to your toolkit. You can embellish, repair, or do both at once—just like I did here! 🙂
