Flower Beret Embroidery!
There’s nothing quite like Spring in Paris. As I travel to Paris this season, I wanted to bring a bit of that Parisian charm into my wardrobe, starting with a popular accessory, the beret! The weather in Paris is not too hot and not too cold, which makes a beret the perfect transitional piece for the weather. I hand-embroidered my beret using Clover’s new Darning Yarns 🙂 Traditionally, it can be used to repair worn-out areas of knits and crochet items, but it’s also perfect for embellishing any simple accessory in your closet that you want to upcycle. The yarn is also very lightweight so the embroidery doesn’t feel bulky. But it’s also much stronger than regular thread, which is why it has the perfect sturdiness for this project. There’s so much you can do with it and that’s what makes it so special.

When preparing the beret for embroidery, I drew a simple flower design that I wanted to put on my beret. You can always put it inside the beret and trace with the thread from the inside or you can freestyle. I did a bit of both!
First, cut a length of darning yarn & thread it onto an embroidery needle. Adjust the thickness by using 1–3 strands, depending on how bold or delicate you want the stitches. I used 2 strands & it was perfect. Use simple embroidery stitches like the Lazy Daisy for petals, French knots for flower centers, & backstitch or stem stitch for stems & leaves. Finish off by knotting the yarn securely on the backside & trim excess.
